Community Support Group
1st Wednesday of the month 5:00-6:15pm This group is for anyone who loves an addict or alcoholic, potentially even with co-occurring mental illness, disordered eating or process-addictive behaviors. It can be wrenching and anxiety-producing to follow a loved one’s recovery and potential for relapse without becoming wrapped up in their process. This can become distracting and eventually completely traumatizing for family members if they don’t get help themselves. This is why these are considered family illnesses. The support group is facilitated by Susan Gillespie, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who is a long time family and group facilitator. She has spent many hours of family therapy with clients getting sober and their loved ones. The goal of the support group is to create a comfortable, safe format with some education and resources offered along with general support for family members dealing with these issues.
Mediation and Mindfulness in Recovery
5 Saturdays beginning May 4th, 9:00-10:00am Tenley is offering a 5 week series facilitated by Valca Valentine, a writer and lifestyle coach. She is influenced by years of study with masters from a variety of traditions. A co-founder of Mindful Living in DC, Valca supports individual practice, facilitates workshops and leads meditation retreats. The 5 week series will allow participants to learn about mindfulness and to engage in mediation with a seasoned practitioner.
